Persons who wish to visit their relatives who are living in the Netherlands can apply for a visa for family visit. This visa is issued for a maximum period of 6 months and can only be applied for to visit relatives up to the fourth degree and relatives by marriage up to the second degree.

The applicant must first of all prove the family relation with the person(s) he or she wishes to visit. Furthermore the applicant or the family member is required to prove that he or she has enough means to his or her disposal to finance their stay and return trip home. Sufficient funds are considered to be present when the family member has an income of at least the minimum wage or when the applicant can prove that he or she has over € 34 a day at his or her disposal.

In closing the applicant must show that return to the country of origin is guaranteed by showing that he or she has sufficient ties with the home country.
