Residence permit for minor children

Children under 18 years of age are able to obtain residence with (one of) their parents.

Just as with residence based on relationship or marriage a distinction is made between family reunification and family forming. If was child is born before the parent left for the Netherlands, it is considered to be family reunification. The income requirement for the parent is than equal to 100% of the minimum wage based on a contract of one year at the time of the application.

If the child was born after the parent had already settled in the Netherlands the migration is considered to be for the purpose of family forming. In this instance the parent will be required to earn 120% of the minimum wage based on a contact of one year at the time of application. As of July 2007 the required income is set at € 1431 per month after taxes.

Children who have not reached the age of 15 yet are excepted from the civic integration exam. Children who are older than 15 must pass the civic integration exam before being allowed entrance into the Netherlands.
