Change in purpose of stay

If the reason for your stay changes, you must submit a request to change your purpose of stay. For instance in the following cases:

  • If your relationship het ended or you divorce;
  • If you are staying in the Netherlands as a labor migrant, and you change your job;
  • If you want to stay with another person;

Temporary humanitarian grounds

There are different categories for a residence permit on the basis of temporary humanitarian grounds:

  • honor-related and domestic violence
  • victims of trafficking who are not able or willing to work with the criminal
  • pending the adoption of Dutch citizenship

Continued residence and non-temporary humanitarian grounds

There are several categories for continued residence permit and under non-temporary humanitarian grounds:

  • You have a residence permit and want to continue residence after staying with a family member;
  • You have a residence permit and want to continue residence due to urgent humanitarian reasons after staying with a family member;
  • You have a residence permit and to want continue residence after death of family member;
  • You have a residence permit and want to continue residence after domestic and honor-related violence;
  • You have a residence permit because you are a victim of human trafficking and you wish to continue to your stay;
  • You have previously stayed in the Netherlands and wish return to the Netherlands, or you are a former Dutch national;
  • You want excersise your right to private life under Article 8 of the ECHR;
  • You want to stay under the scheme long-term resident children (Children’s Pardon);
  • You want to stay under other humanitarian reasons.
